The Craylands School
"Coombs supported us in creating not just a new building but a school ready for use by the children. We were very happy with how the project was managed throughout."
The Craylands School
Craylands School is the latest in a long line of projects delivered on behalf of Kent County Council
Designed by Hazle McCormack Young (Architects), Evans & Langford (Engineers) and Hamson Barron Smith (Services Consultants) the project involved the relocation of an existing MUGA to make the best use of the school site. For every £1 spent, a £2.48 local economic impact was created with a five subcontractors based within 5-miles of the project benefiting.
The Headteacher at Craylands School was impressed with our performance during the project – giving an excellent 94% KPI rating. He stated, “Coombs supported us in creating not just a new building but a school ready for use by the children. We were very happy with how the project was managed throughout.”
A new detached two storey teaching block of 8 classrooms, two group rooms and ancillary accommodation was provided complete with all services, associated external works. The new steel frame classroom building is clad in buff bricks similar to the existing school. Window configurations consisting of glazing, solid panels and louvre panels will sit between the brickwork plinths to emphasise the classroom areas.
Good levels of daylight were achieved to all the teaching spaces thereby reducing the need for artificial lighting. Use of natural ventilation where possible reduces running costs, energy consumption and improve maintainability. An air source heat pump and measures such as flow restrictors and dual flushing toilets contribute to sustainability of the project.
We have an excellent track record of taking on apprentices and giving opportunities to local people. At Craylands School we employed a local resident as a multi-task labourer. He was also given the opportunity to work on our other local project at Brent Primary School.
