St James the Great School
An "absolutely stunning and amazing" new primary school delivered adjacent to an occupied school of 200 pupils.
St James the Great School
Constructed next to the existing St James the Great Primary School this project provides seven classrooms, specialist learning spaces, a hall for physical education and staff facilities with a new nursery within a 1FE school building.
A central “street”, from which each of the classrooms is accessed, provides open shared learning space. Sky lights provide natural day light to this area containing ICT, SEN, library and group working areas which are subtly separated by low curving walls.
Additional teaching space is provided outdoors with a timber decked reading area, sculpture garden and a secure covered play area off of the nursery spaces. Staff areas and office accommodation provide natural surveillance of the play space from an elevated position for this school constructed adjacent to parkland.
To safeguard the health & well-being of some 200 pupils works had to be carefully programmed and managed with a variety of measures in place to minimise noise, dust and disturbance.
Headteacher Sylvia Crockett commented, “Many thanks to everyone for all your hard work with our new school building. It looks absolutely stunning and amazing. It has been a real pleasure to work with you all during the design and build. I will miss our monthly meetings and look forward to seeing you again.”
