St Andrew’s United Reform Church
Built over Canterbury’s Watling Road sympathetic excavations and pile locations avoided the historic structures in the construction of this vibrant and friendly church.
St Andrew’s United Reform Church
St Andrew’s Church is a vibrant, friendly church in the centre of Canterbury.
The new St Andrew’s United Reform Church replaced an existing Church which was relocated as part of the Whitefriars redevelopment. The building consists of a mixture of brick and reconstituted stone work on a piled foundation, with a slate roof and a GRP dome to the main church structure.
As the Church was constructed on a site of great archaeological significance, following investigations, piles for the foundations were placed in consultation with Archaeologists to minimise any impact on the artefacts below.
The wheel chair accessible building includes a main worship area, a multifunction sports hall, meeting rooms, fully-equipped kitchen, a coffee shop and crèche. The church facilities are used for church events as well as for meetings, concerts and other events as well as for weddings, baptisms, funerals and thanksgiving services.
