The objective of this project is the inclusion of energy efficiency measures funded under Warm Homes (SHDF Wave 3) alongside an already commissioned Decent Homes programme for Enfield Council. The objective of the SHDF (Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund) is to support the decarbonisation of social housing in England by improving the energy performance of homes.
The main SHDF measures at the Bramley House Court sheltered scheme are loft insulation, double and secondary glazing and ventilation strategy, all of which must take account of the Grade 2 Listed Building Status. There are three listed blocks, two from the 1700's, and one from the 1900's, the works to each requiring extensive discussions with the local authority conservation planning officer.
Richard Barwick of Coombs and Partners has worked on Grade 1 and 2 listed buildings throughout his career. He understands that the decarbonisation of listed buildings involves a complex balancing act between preserving heritage and achieving energy efficiency, requiring a whole building approach that takes account of the building's context. This approach ensures that any improvements are sustainable and do not compromise the building's character.
